New Vice-Principal: Mrs. VanRheen

Story By: Dakota Copeland

Eudora High School’s Vice Principal Mrs. VanRheen is a very ambitious and family-oriented person. Mrs. VanRheen has over twenty years of education experience as a physical education teacher and most recently three years of experience being an assistant principal. Although Mrs. VanRheen spent over twenty years in the Gardner school district, she is very excited for a fresh start in Eudora.

Commuting from Shawnee, Kansas, she came to Eudora for a better opportunity and because of her family. So far, she has been impressed and loves the attitudes of the Eudora High School students.

“I’ll be honest here, the kids are so friendly here and everyone is so nice,” said VanRheen.

She loves the attitude and the respect that all of the EHS students have.

“ …The kids are so respectful and they always say thank you all the time. I get asked how I’m doing, it’s amazing.”

Mrs. VanRheen is also highly educated.

VanRheen has a bachelor’s degree in education, following two master degrees in sports management and education leadership from the University of Kansas. VanRheen is also in a three year program to get her doctorate in education.

In High School, Mrs. VanRheen played basketball and received a scholarship to play at MidAmerican Nazarene. Despite not having a great team, Mrs. VanRheen still displayed her competitive edge. Today fitness and sport is still important to Mrs. VanRheen. Well on her way to the “50 Club,” Mrs. VanRheen has ran in 38 marathons in 38 different states.

VanRheen wants all of the students at Eudora High School to know three things about life: Always have time for your family and continue to show them love, there’s plenty of time for work so have fun now, and finally… Always be nice to the new kid!
