Bryan Duncan is a new counselor this year at Eudora High School. Formerly a counselor at Lawrence Free State High School, Mr. Duncan is excited about a new opportunity as a Cardinal.

Mr. Duncan also has direct experience working with students as a teacher before transitioning into a counselor. Counseling intrigued Mr. Duncan, as it was still in education, but a different perspective.

“Getting to work with students on an individual level and helping them create their plans,” said Mr. Duncan. “Not only for high school but post secondary plans.”

Before becoming a counselor, Duncan was an English teacher and a girls basketball coach at Lawrence Free State High School.

“I think my experience in the classroom as a teacher helped me become a better counselor, understanding the teacher’s role and the student’s role,” Said Duncan

Roughly 10 years ago, Duncan was offered the opportunity to become a high school counselor at Lawrence Free State High School and it started from there. While working at Lawrence Free State High School Mr. Duncan also worked at Midco Sports as a local high school play by play analyst. Whenever Duncan called a Eudora home game, the Cardinals stood out to him.

“Eudora always had a special feel,” said Mr.Duncan. “Everyone was very welcoming and friendly.”

This year Mr. Duncan plans to get to know the students and their future goals. Mr. Duncan’s personal goals include post-secondary plans for Seniors and familiarizing himself with the Eudora community.

“I’m still getting to know the students at eudora, but from my experience, I’ve had good vibes from the student population, everyone is very respectful and very interested in their education.”
