Cardinal Cup points, SOAR rewards and SOAR tickets are different honor systems. Do you know the difference? Read to find out.

Both Cardinal Corps representatives are Jessica Johnsonand Chris Dunback. They are the behind-the-scenes cast for all updates on school points.

“…and Cardinal Corps, part of their mission is to improve SOAR,” said Jessica Johnson, a Freshman Orientation teacher.

Cardinal Cup is a grade-divided competition. It’s a year-long game that helps determine which grade is most involved with school events and activities. Students can help earn points by attending school sporting events, dressing up during spirit week, donating to fundraisers like the hygiene drive, and various other school-related events.

SOAR Rewards, on the other hand, is a weekly-earned tally based on  students’ attendance, grades, and behavior in school. If a student earns four SOAR’s during a month’s period, they are able to get a free day outside of school. Students that earn a high amount of SOAR rewards throughout the year can even get out of finals in the Spring.

“[SOAR Rewards] are different from SOAR Tickets. Soar tickets can earn a student a day off of being at school and doing homework, instead of just being nice to students and staff and picking up trash that you see in the hall…” said Benita Engle, a staff member.

SOAR Tickets is an individual point system. Instead of depending on classmates to help earn tickets, you can for yourself based on academics, grades, behavior, and how involved you are. Starting the year strong, Senior Lauren Brinsfield has the most tickets in the school.

“I don’t think it’s a very good motivational thing ‘cause you know no one is thinking oh I’mma do this because it earns me a SOAR ticket,” said Brinsfield.

In the eyes of some students and staff, they believe that SOAR will improve as it grows.

For Seniors, they have been seeing the changes in SOAR for the past four years of their high school life. General consensus is positive for the changes.

“I do [enjoy the point systems]. The way I think of it is…Starbucks or you go to Target. You have a reward program. I’m going to go to Starbucks anyway, but they’ll give me a free drink for, after I go 5 times or whatever. Heck yeah, I’m probably going to go more,” Jessica Johnson said with excitement.

Each teacher has individual stores, too. They are willing to let students purchase assignment passes, special chair, or aux cord rights. These are just little things that may be useful and fun. You can find what your teacher has on the PBIS website or in the app. You can also locate how many tickets you have, how you earned them, and where you earned them.
