The Eudora football team faced Santa Fe Trail on Friday, Oct 18 and right from the start it looked like the game was going to be a close one. No one scored until the second quarter when sophomore Grant Elston scored a 31 yard touchdown run putting the Cardinals up 7-0. SFT tied the game with a touchdown pass in the third quarter. Then it looked as if SFT would take the lead driving the ball down the field, but they got stopped on the Cardinal’s 5 yard line and couldn’t score. The following offensive play for the Cardinals was not so good however; they fumbled it in the endzone and SFT recovered it for a touchdown, but junior Skyler Manley blocked the extra point which was probably the most important play of the game because then the Cardinals were only down 13-6. Late in the fourth quarter, Elston marched the Cardinals down the field for a game winning drive when he ran it in for a 1 yard touchdown. After a defensive stop, the game finally ended with the score of 14-13.

“The best part of the game was coming back to score on the last drive,” said senior Justin Underwood.

On Friday, Oct. 25 the Cardinals faced off against Ottawa, and it was a rough one for Eudora. Ottawa scored first with a 18 yard touchdown run that put the Cyclones up 7-0 after the extra point. The Cardinals then marched down the field with the help of senior JT Howell who scored on a 12 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7 apiece. Unfortunately, that would be the last time Eudora found the end zone the entire game letting Ottawa score 3 more times later in the game that would result in the Cardinals losing 27-7 making their record 5-3.

If they want to make it to the playoffs, then they are going to have to beat a really good Baldwin Bulldogs team, who they play on Thursday, Oct. 31.
