New Staff: Scott Russell

Story By: Gabe Campbell

Mr. Russell is the new strength and conditioning coach here at Eudora High School. Mr. Russell has 14 years of teaching experience at Basehor-Linwood High School coming into Eudora.

Originally back in 2009 Mr. Russell applied to be the weights coach here but Coach Phil Katzenmeier ended up getting the job. Now 13 years later the job came open once again. Mr. Russell lives in Eudora and has kids that attend Eudora Elementary School. “It gives me the opportunity to try to make an impact here in Eudora as opposed to a different community,” said Mr. Russell.

His main goal for his students this year is personal improvement.

“Truthfully here this class is easy to get caught up in comparing with people as opposed to comparing to ourselves and where we’re at so truthfully the goal is kids continually are working on improving their own self,” said Mr. Russell.

Also, he currently has a club for kids who want to stay in shape for their winter sports. They meet 3:30 to 4:30 Monday through Thursday and it is open to anyone who would like to join.

Mr. Russell is an olympian who competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China for men’s javelin. He placed 10th out of all the javelin throwers in the world.

1998 Mr. Russell was the #1 ranked junior in the world. He also has the Canadian national record for the longest javelin throw of 84.81 meters.
