It’s been a little over a week since Super Bowl LV. The defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9 on their home turf in Tampa Bay Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.. The Buccaneers finished with a record of 15-5 improving from the 2019-2020 7-9 record. The Chiefs however, ended with a 16-3 and last years was 12-4. The Chiefs Kingdom had high hopes for the team, hoping to bring home a back to back Super Bowl achievement.

The loss didn’t bring down the Chiefs fans spirits though. Fans were excited that their team had made it again this year. Ron Abel, principal at EHS, spent game days with friends and family sharing their traditions.

“We always wear team gear and we watch as often as we can with friends. When at Arrowhead, we would always tailgate. But when the Chiefs are away from home, we usually prepare a good meal before the game starts.”

Abel also says he knew that the Chiefs were going to have another great season this year.

“I still think they have the best overall team in the NFL,” he says, “I’m just disappointed in the overall performance in the Super Bowl, that was not a good performance.”

Alex Smith, former quarterback for KC, went on the Greeny Show and talked about what he thinks went wrong for the Chiefs this past weekend.

“For me, it goes back to the first game in the regular season. I mean I think you have to look at that game and obviously the offensive shootout that it ended up being. But really that first half what the Chiefs did, I mean Tampa Bay played them in a ton of man-to-man coverage with no help, one high man, and you saw them get exposed,” Smith said.

This game was a great example of the Buc’s high and well defense this past season. Another dilemma for the Chiefs was their star player, Patrick Mahomes, being injured. Mahomes, KC quarterback, had torn his plantar plate in his foot, causing him to be less mobile in the game. Mahomes was set to have surgery on his “turf toe” and will be out for a few months for recovery.

Overall, Super Bowl LV was a big moment for both teams, with many highlights for the teams, fans, and NFL. If the Chiefs keep the streak, we might see them in a third return to Super Bowl LVI.
