The 2019 senior trip group will leave on April
27 for Branson, Mo. after spending the night at the
high school for the first pre-trip lock-in.
Scheduling the lock-in for the night before the
seniors depart for Missouri is a new addition to
the festivities of senior trip. The event is available
for every senior, regardless if they are going on the
senior trip or not. Because there are multiple other

events happening on the day of senior trip departure, like State Solo and Small Ensemble for band

and choir, the Senior Advisory Committee decided

to put the lock-in in place this year to make everyone feel more included as well as give the band

seniors that are going to State an opportunity to
spend some time with their classmates.
This year, 67 seniors are going on the senior
trip to Branson. That is the average number of
students expected compared to last year’s 65
students, but, though the number seems high, there
are 124 students in the class of 2019. Meaning that
while a lot of students will be attending, there will
be 60 students not going to Branson, and instead
possibly going to the lock-in.
Meadow Meier is going on the senior trip and

the lock-in, but can understand why some students don’t take the trip to Missouri.

“Some people might not go because of money,
it is $250 to go [to Branson],” said Meier.
“It also depends on who you are. I think you
should go because when you come back there is a
better bond and you are more connected to your
classmates. I think you miss out if you don’t go.”

Senior Nyah Coleman understands where Meier is coming from, but doesn’t think the money is

why students choose not to go.
“I feel like people aren’t going because they feel
like they won’t fit in or have a group to be with,”
said Coleman “The class of 2019 is pretty cliquey.”
Though there are reasons why people will
choose not to participate in the trip and the lock-in,
Coleman has her own reason that seniors should
decide to go.
“I am going on senior trip because this will be
the last time I will get to really connect with my
class before graduation,” said Coleman. “I feel like
there are a lot of students in my class that I never
got to know on a personal level and I’m hoping to
grow closer to those individuals.”
Hannah Mosser, however, isn’t planning on
going on the senior trip or the lock-in for some of
those exact reasons.
“It’s a one-way ticket to spend time with people
I’m not particularly close to,” said Mosser.“I can do
at home just fine. My friends are also not going and
we plan to hang out during the trip time,”
As for the lock-in, Mosser said that she wasn’t
going for the same reasons.

“I don’t particularly enjoy spending long periods of time listening to loud noise, which is most

certainly going to occur,” said Mosser, ‘Still, to
each their own.”
Mosser said that she’s not criticizing the whole
idea of taking a senior trip.
“It may not be my thing”, Mosser said, “but it
makes a lot of people really happy.”
