Walking down the hallway
around the gym at EHS you can see
hundreds of graduated student’s
senior pictures. Some of the many

faces look familiar and several belong to none other than some of our

beloved teachers and staff.

How did they feel about returning to their high school for employment? Did they see themselves here

when they were teenagers planning
their futures?

“That’s a good question because I don’t know,” said Theresa

Abel Eudora High school’s registrar
and career center coordinator. “But
I mean… I love that I’m here now,
and I started

here when my kids were in high
school so that helped to kind of stay
in touch with them.”
Mrs. Abel was the secretary of

her graduating class. She also participated in several sports: cheer,

volleyball, and track.
“We didn’t have near the sports
that we have now [then],” said Mrs.
Abel concluding that she would
have played softball but it was not
offered.
Mr. Abel, EHS principal, is also
an alumni of Eudora High, and was
also involved as an athlete in his
years at EHS.
Unlike Mrs. Abel, Principal Abel
saw himself becoming a teacher

and working at a high school. However, he didn’t picture that it would

be at his high school.
“I worked at Perry as a teacher,
but there was an opportunity here,”
said Mr. Abel “I wanted to be closer
to home and to my family so I took
the job. Getting the opportunity to
come back has been the thrill of a
lifetime,”
When Principal Abel began to
work at EHS, he noticed that most
of his co-workers were people who
had taught him.
“Some of the staff I knew as a
student were still here and it was
great to get to work with them,”
said Abel, “I used to tell my math
teacher as a student that one day I
would be back here as his boss and
I joked with him about that when it
became true.”
