On Saturday, April 26 the EHS advanced choirs, Primo Voci, Cantorei and soloists went to state at Andover. Seniors Mason Kelso, Alysa Blaisdell, and Samantha Carpenter were soloists who took pieces to state alongside junior Chloe O’Dell and freshman Rachel Stockton. To be able to go to state, these advanced groups and soloists had to score a 1 rating from regionals.

“We weren’t just singing notes, we were making music,” said Blaisdell.

Eudora choir small groups did great during state. Primo Voci, the advanced mixed choir here in Eudora, got a 1 rating. The performers in Primo were excited by their 1. However, what shocked everyone was the score that Cantori received. Cantori got a score of 2. The students thought that Cantori deserved better.

“At state some of the results were really surprising,” said Carpenter.

The soloists did just as well as the small groups had. The most shocking score was Kelso’s who had gotten his first 2 at a state competition. Stockton was the only Freshman to take a solo to state. She also got a 2 score like Kelso. The other three performers had achieved a 1 score for their solos.

It was an excellent day for the Eudora choir solos and small groups. The students had a great time at state and were able to celebrate many good performances.

“Our students not only sang the notes and rhythms on the page, but they connected to the text and the harmonies,” said choir teacher Ashley Ramirez.
