Some students were feeling sluggish while thinking of the beginning of the second semester on Monday, Jan. 6. The students were welcomed back to a surprising extra day off of school due to cold weather.

On Monday it was a bone-chilling -10 degrees. Although it might seem weird for school to be canceled due to low temperatures, such an extreme cold can be dangerous. At negative 10 degrees someone could get frostbite if they are out longer than 30 minutes. Although students were back in school on Tuesday, they didn’t get much break from the cold because the temperature was only a degree higher than the day before, a whooping -9 degrees. The record low in January in Eudora was -18 degrees.

“It’s not safe for them (younger students) to be out and about on their own in the cold that we’ve had this winter.” Said senior Claudia Moody.

Some people may have been shocked or surprised to hear that the EHS students didn’t have school, but many of those students probably welcomed the extra day of Winter Break.
