Coming back from a long break can be hard for most students, but not those taking part in the sports here at EHS. The Cardinal wrestling team had wrestled tough at the Eudora Tournament of Champions, but that was the last time they saw action for almost a month. The team was set to travel to Emporia on Saturday, Dec 21. They were unable make it due to the weather. Although the wrestlers didn’t compete, they still were ready for their most recent tournament on Saturday, Jan 11 in Bonner Springs, the Dick Burns Tournament.

The Cardinals competed well at the tournament for not competing for almost a month. Freshman Monti Enriquez wrestled very well and placed third in his 120 pound bracket. No other wrestlers placed, although on a positive note, no one lost by pin. All varsity wrestlers wrestled for the entire six minutes of the match.

“It was a struggle, but I pulled through,” said Enriquez.

The Cardinals varsity wrestlers will compete again on Saturday, Jan 25 at the Paola Invitational.
