Headbands and ponytails are com-
mon ways students might wear their

hair, but do they lead to headaches
and increase the chances of getting a
migraine?

Skylar Hartley is someone who re-
members feeling pain from pulling her

hair back when she was younger.
“I would get headaches as a kid
when I wore headbands,” Hartley said,
“because they would press down on my
glasses.”
Ezekiel Reazin also has long hair,
and he doesn’t feel that it makes much
of a difference. “I mean, I guess if they

[headbands]

are too tight. But I don’t

really get them [headaches]” said Soph-
omore Ezekiel Reazin.

So as it turns out, headbands might
cause headaches if they are too tight.
Many students feel that headbands by

themselves do not cause pain, they just
contribute to it..
But what about ponytails? Jacque
Durr, owner of Jacque’s Place, works
with hair as a professional every day.
She said choosing to wear your hair
in a ponytail certainly can give you

headaches.
“Definitely if you pull it in a tight
pony or bun,” Durr, said. She also
added that “it depends on if your hair is
thicker or thinner.” The thicker the hair,
the more likely headaches are to come.
