Story by Khloe Crawshaw »Homecoming 2018 was ‘another

day in paradise’. The student council was busy

at work planning out the dance, and Spirit
Week.
“We were excited to have a surfboard as
a photobooth prop,” said Senior Riley Foltz.
“[A Hawaiian theme] is usually a popular
theme for games, so we thought people
would participate for the dance also,” said
Foltz.
While the student council was in full
swing preparing for the dance, students
were dressed for Spirit Week and showing
their school pride. While many students
chose to participate in Spirit Week, Leah

McGinnis, Soph., doesn’t typically partici-
pate in Spirit Week dress-up days.

“I love our school and all”, McGinnis
said, “but I can’t pay to buy something
different every single day of Spirit Week.”
While McGinnis acknowledges that some
days she could wear something straight
from her closet, the theme of Hawaiian

posed a new issue for her, and in her opin-
ion, other female students.

“Only like three or four girls dressed up
this week because there’s no appropriate
swim gear. Even our full-body suits are
inappropriate,” McGinnes said. “I guess
maybe they didn’t think of that?”
While some students agreed with
McGinnes and didn’t dress for Spirit Week,
there were also students who found ways
to incorporate the theme days in their own
way.
The themes were:
Monday, students broke the internet
on ‘Making waves with memes’ day, and
dressed in Vine and meme references.
Tuesday, students showed off their
future plans with the ‘Sea ya later’ theme,
presenting their choice of future careers or
schools they hope to, or are planning to go
to.
Wednesday, Eudora High School was
hit with a wave of off duty lifeguards, with
‘Who Let the Guards Out’ theme. Students

sported goggles, snorkels, and their favor-
ite lifeguard apparel.

Thursday, the students blocked out the
sun by wearing their summer gear and

sunglasses, as well as giant hats on ‘Bask-
ing in Cardinal spirit’ day.

Friday’s spirit day corresponded with

the dance theme – ‘hawaiian’ inspired out-
fits, fit for any luau. Or, students had the

option of wearing the homecoming shirt.
