For most of the football players, the beginning of the season started in June. The team participated in three full-contact camps at Northwest Missouri State in Marysville, Truman High School in Independence, Missouri and finally here at home with Tonganoxie and Wamego. With 14 seniors on the squad this year, they want to make this season one to remember.

“We have ‘One Vision’ as a team,” quarterback and safety Griffin Katzenmeier, Sr. said, “The ‘vision’ is doing your job 100% right, 100% of the time at 100% of your ability. We want that kind of attitude of doing whatever it takes to win, to carry over to the younger guys.”

Every football program has their own set of goals and this team is no different. Winning the league and making a deep playoff run are just a few. The tradition of hard work and dedication that the players put out on the field is something that this senior class hopes to continue.

“I want to get my name on the wall,” quarterback and safety Grant Elston, Sr. said, “and be known as a leader – by actions not words.”

The leadership of the seniors drives the team to keep moving forward. Although this is their last season here at EHS, each of them hope to make the most out of their time on the field.

“As a senior, I’m a little sad that it’s my last season,” right tackle Jacob Pearson, Sr. said, “but I’m excited to see how the season goes and what it brings us in the end.”

All students each have their own favorite part about “Friday Night Lights.”

“My favorite part about the games is cheering on the football team with my classmates,” Liz Kendall, Sr. said. “I’m going to miss that aspect of the season a lot in college.”
