As the school year comes to a close, coaches are gathering information about camps, summer training, and any other activities that will help prepare their athletes for the next season. Summer preparations are a big factor in the success of a team or an individual so the involvement of the players over the break is crucial.

“The best part about summer conditioning is that it allows kids to stay in shape,” said the Lady Cards basketball coach Justin Mayer.

There are many different options for each sport when it comes to summer camps. It is up to the coaches and the players to choose the best opportunities that will help the team improve their skills in anticipation for their upcoming season.

“We are hosting a team camp run by Gold Medal Squared, a company that runs coaching clinics and volleyball camps throughout the country. Our camp is June 9-12,” informed the Lady Cards volleyball coach Jeremy Gish.

Along with team specific camps, athletes are able to attend weightlifting in the mornings at EHS. Coaches compile the perfect workouts for the athletes to build strengths that are needed for the most success during the season.

“Core exercises are very important as are back and leg strength, agility exercises, and overall fitness,” stated Coach Gish.

The new EHS football coach Jesse Owen has big plans for the Cardinals this summer. Owen has 33 days of football related work for the players to participate in over the summer. The boys will be hosting their annual football camp here on campus the week of June 9-13. They will also travel to Blue Valley Southwest three separate times to participate in a fully padded contact camp, and to Shawnee Mission East for another camp similar to that of the Blue Valley Southwest camp. Owen agrees that the players strength is crucial when it comes to their success on the field.

“The weight room is an extension of the practice field.  We won’t win football games if we’re weak…it’s the law of the jungle!” stated Coach Owen.

Whether on the football field, volleyball court, or running on the trails, athletes at Eudora will have a plethora of opportunities to improve their skills over the summer break.
