Wrestling season has come to an end. A rocky beginning turned into one wrestler going to state. Next year, the returning wrestlers are eager for an even better season.

At the Tonganoxie Regional Tournament, on February 15 and 16 the Cards had one state qualifier, senior Thaius Boyd who placed 4th. There were also two sophomores who were close to going to state. Justis Merz and Noah Kennedy made the consolation semi-finals matches.

At the state tournament, Boyd did not place or advance in the tournament. Unfortunately, he lost both of his advancing matches.

Boyd said about his overall season, “I saw my season as a whole a very good season. I placed in a lot of tournaments including Basehor. I accomplished my goal of making it to state this season. I saw the team as a whole a young rebuilding team; they showed tremendous effort and hard work at practice everyday and competed well at tournaments. The coaching staff was really good at teaching moves and working us hard to get better and improve so we can place at tournaments and ultimately make it to state.”

Coach Byron Mays said about the overall wrestling season, “Overall the guys improved immensely. They worked hard and were a fun group to work with. They started preparing for next season by taking advantage of another week of practice prior to the state tournament. In addition, we need 25 more student athletes to come out for wrestling next year.”
