Scholars Bowl started at the end of October and ends in the beginning of February. During these months, students not only compete in meets, but also practice three times a week to prepare for the meets. The varsity team has competed in five tournaments so far. The team is co-coached by Bonnie Daigh and Theresa Abel. Right now, Mrs. Abel has taken over the team during Mrs. Daigh’s absence.

Mrs. Abel had this to say, “The transition during her absence has been very easy because we practice so often and attend a lot of tournaments; I’m feeling more and more comfortable with everything. Mrs. Daigh and I work closely together and communicate well. She has been coaching Scholars Bowl for many years, so she is very organized. She has been a great example and a tremendous help to me.”

The varsity’s first meet was in Bonner Springs on Tuesday, Oct. 22. The team placed fourth in pool play and had a 5-3 record. The next place they attended was Lansing on Monday, Nov. 4. They placed 1st overall and had a 8-1 record.

The famous De Soto meet seems to be a favorite not just because of the long rivalry but also because of the pizza that is provided for dinner.

Senior Mason Kelso said, “My most memorable meet was the De Soto varsity meet my freshman year because I answered an obscure question about Greek architecture and got it right.”

The De Soto meet was on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The team placed 5th and had a 4-4 record.

Their most recent meet was at Mill Valley on Thursday, Dec. 5, and they placed 1st in the Silver Pool. After pool play, they competed against three different 6-A teams and placed fourth. Come out and support the Eudora Scholars Bowl team when they compete in their next meet. Good luck Cards!
