Lady Cards Take Flight
The Lady Cardinals traveled to Spring Hill on Thursday Dec. 5 to play their first game of the season. The JV started off the night with a good first game. The ladies battled and kept the Broncos within two points until the fourth quarter of the game when the Broncos slowly pulled away and won 23-13.
“I’m most excited about my first varsity start and playing with my teammates,” stated junior Tierra Balluch approaching the first game of the season.
The varsity ladies were ready to battle for a win in their first game of the season. The Lady Cardinals were determined to make weeks of preparation for this night finally pay off. The team played very hard and had two players score in the double digits. Seniors Abby and Cierra Richeson scored 16 and 13 points respectively. Tremendous amounts of effort were put into the game and not an ounce of energy was left in the players after the final buzzer. However, the Broncos managed to come out with the win. The final score was 47-35.
“It wasn’t fun to lose, but it was the first game so I’m not overly upset. We will see them again on our own court, and it should be a good game,” Balluch added.
The Lady Cardinals began play in the Paola Invitational Tournament on Monday, Dec. 9. The ladies lost to the Bonner Springs Braves 45-33. The varsity squad battled in their second game of the tournament and pulled out the win over the Highland Park Scots. The final score was 39-33 in overtime. The ladies ended the tournament with a 2-1 record after beating Bishop Ward 34-26. The Cards will step on the court again on Tuesday, Dec. 17 to face the Louisburg Wildcats.
