The EHS Lady Cards got their first win of the season on Tuesday, September 10 against Ottawa, with varsity beating the Cyclones 25-21. Having played Basehor, Baldwin, Bonner, and Ottawa among others so far this season, their record is currently 3-12.

While the season has not gone quite as well as hoped so far, Head Coach Jeremy Gish has seen much improvement. “We are getting better with each practice and competition,” he stated.

As the season moves forward, the girls are also looking for ways to develop their skills and boost the scores.

Senior Cierra Richeson said she is working to control her newly learned jump serve, but feels she and the team have already improved a lot this season. “I feel I have improved tremendously as a labero, and as a team we’ve gotten much better at defense,” she stated.

Senior Abby Richeson hopes to “get more kills and aces this season”, but also feels she personally has made improvements as well as the team.

No matter what, the Lady Cards make sure to support each other. Sophomore Makaila Garcia, who has played volleyball for nine years, says the best thing about playing the sport is working together as a team.

“There’s nothing better than getting a kill and your teammates are right behind you cheering,” she added.

You can come out and support them as well, as EHS takes on Paola on Tuesday, October 1 at home.
