EHS hosts annual blood drive

Eudora High School’s blood drive was hosted on Nov. 9, 2021. The event is sponsored by EHS’ student council.

Our blood drive benefits the Community Blood Center, which is the primary source for hospitals in need around this region. This is the school’s big community service. STUCO sponsors around four hostings throughout the year, but due to Covid-19, STUCO is only sponsoring two to work the high school back into the service.

The blood drive allows anyone 16 years and older to join and donate. If you are 16, you must have parents consent and if you are 17 or older, you can join with proof of ID. Eric Magette runs the show, helping those who wish to sign up.

“It’s a chance for students to donate blood so somebody in a hospital who needs blood can have a supply available for them,” Magette said. In
the future Magette hopes to get more students involved.

Students this year were excited and ready for the blood drive. STUCO hosts the drives at school to provide a comfortable environment for students since they might be frightened of needles or the thought of blood being taken from the body.

One senior, Emily Moody, donated for the first time this year. She was proud of the service she provided. She was worried because the nurses had a difficult time finding her vein, but once they found it, they took the proper amount. Moody left satisfied. She knew the school would be there to help her if she had any questions or issues, so she didn’t panic over the situation.

“My arm hurt for the first day, but I’m better now. They couldn’t find my vein, which is common for some people, so they had to poke me twice. I have a bit of a bruise, but it was a fun experience.
