Book Review: The Fault in Our Stars
“I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.” This beautiful line is just a small peak into the wonder that meets you when you open the pages of The Fault in Our Stars. Hazel Lancaster is a teenager living with an aggressive form of cancer who refuses to sit idly by for her one great chance at life. When Hazel meets Augustus Waters, boy enigma, at a support group meeting for cancer sufferers, sparks fly. The novel chronicles Hazel’s dazzling and complex romance with this as they move through stages of adolescence, grief and growth. Although the novel appears to be “a chick book,” it is one that this reader gladly recommends to any that have the time. With an easy to read feel that delves into hard to define emotion, the book tells a unique story with an honest voice. The Fault in Our Stars is a must-read that will force you to reevaluate what it really means to live and die.
