STORY BY KHLOE CRAWSHAW » All of EHS has been asking the same question: What are we going to do about all the snow days?
Since the beginning of the semester, we have not had a full week of school. With all of the days missed, that means lots of hours to make up. But how?
Principal Ron Abel says that a lot of work and time goes into deciding how to make up those hours, and nothing is set in stone. However, Mr. Abel says that it is most likely that there will not need to be full days added to the school year.
“No decision has been made,” said Abel. “Where we are right now is that we know that we have to lengthen the school day, and that how much we lengthen it by will depend on the school district and the teacher’s final decisions.”
Because the Seniors have a specific amount of time they need to meet to graduate, the snow days can cause sticky situations for those Seniors that want to graduate and not have to come back for those extra days.
“Right now, we will have to add minutes, but I believe we can use the built-in snow days, with the only problem being the Seniors possibly being short,”
Abel said that the formula to decide what to do about those extra needed hours is complicated, but, a formal decision will be announced soon.
“This district is on minutes instead of days, and we always add extra time first,” said Abel. “We will probably start that after spring break.”
