Perfect Promposals
Story by Hunter Darling »
Prom itself has been a part of American high school and collegiate culture since before 1879, and is literally older than sliced bread, which came about in 1928, according to Bustle.com.
The history of the ‘promposal’, however, is much newer and began in the early 2000’s, cementing itself as an integral part of the high school prom experience.
“I think that [promposals] are a part of teen American culture,” said Nina Muro, Jr. “He put the time and effort into creating a sign asking me to go. It showed that he actually wanted to go to the dance with me.”
Nicole Tener, Sr., believes that the act of a promposal can show how special a relationship is.
“To some people, it’s a big deal, they wanna ask people to prom in a big way,” said Tener.
“For me I think that having a sign or something is more than [just] asking, so you can have a memory.”
