Curriculum Changes

Next year at Eudora High School, students will have the opportunity to take several brand new classes. Some of the classes that will be offered next year are: World History Honors, U.S. History Honors, Particular Topics, Fundamentals of Electronics, and a three hour block class of Construction. This gives students new opportunities to learn hands on skills for their possible careers for the future.

Students like Junior Garrett Durr will be taking the construction class as well CAD II, English Comp. II, Calculus and Spanish III. However, most seniors typically will take government during their last year of high school. In order to be able to fit in all of the classes he has chosen to take, Durr is getting his government credit by taking the class through Johnson County Community College over summer break.

“We are getting classes that like the Fundamental of Electronics that past students like my brother, who went to college to become an electrical engineer, didn’t get the opportunity to take while they were in high school,” Durr said.

Students aren’t the only ones that this affects either. Teachers like Mr. Durkin, who teaches  World History, will also be affected by the curricular changes next year. Mr. Durkin will be teaching the new World History Honors class next year for the upcoming sophomores who are looking to challenge themselves. He believes that students will benefit from having the option to take a more rigorous class.

“It’ll give students a deeper understanding in social studies,” Durkin said.

The World History Honors class will not be a separate class from the those who choose not to take the honors version. Students will be mixed in together with the only difference being the the Honors Students who will have additional projects and exams.

“These new classes are giving students new opportunities to reach their full potential here at Eudora High School,” Durkin said.
