Senior Signing Day

Signing on to continue a sport or activity at the collegiate level is what a lot of high-school students dream about doing. The list of the 2018 seniors that have committed to continue on their prospective activity in college has continued to grow since the early fall signing period. As of March 30, there were 17 seniors who had verbally committed to their future school and a majority have now signed the national letter of intent.

Senior Leslie Douglas has committed to Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., for competitive dancing. She plans to minor in dance while in school.

“I’ve been doing dance for all of my life,” Douglas said, “It’s something I’ve always held near to my heart, and I don’t want to stop until I have to.”

Senior Niki Pearson has signed on to row at Kansas State University. Rowing is a sport that the Eudora Schools (obviously) does not have, so how did Pearson get recruited for Division I rowing?

“I got a letter my junior year saying that K-State was interested in me because of my height and athleticism,” Pearson said, “I then got in contact with them to do a couple of visits to the university and they offered me a spot on the team.”

Soccer, on the other hand, is a sport that EHS does offer. Senior Nate Gomez is going to continue his soccer career at Northern Vermont University Johnson in Johnson, Vt. Gomez never expected to play a sport in college and attributes his reason for playing the sport at EHS is fellow soccer senior Phillip Pyle.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the next step is for my future and travelling the east coast for games and just live the dream,” Gomez said.

As the Class of 2018’s time at EHS winds down, the 16 students that have made their commitments have new things to look forward to and more dreams to pursue and we all wish them the best of luck!
