How Do You Take Naps?
Story by Hannah Hazeldine »
Do you think naps are good for your health? According to the National Sleep Foundation, a short nap of 20-30 minutes can help improve your mood, alertness and performance. After asking students at EHS, that statement seems to be true.
Sophomore Connor Schmidt agrees that naps are a good way to feel better.
“When you wake up you feel refreshed and ready to do whatever,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt prefers to nap right after he is done with homework, usually a two hour nap, because he starts feeling exhausted.
“My brain gets tired and a quick nap fixes it all,” Schmidt said. My best nap ever was probably after basketball camp this summer. It was five hours!”
Lydia Brown, Soph., also believes that naps can be good for you. Brown likes to nap right after she eats lunch because it gives her a good time range to nap before it’s too late in the day and she feels very well rested after. A memorable nap she remembers is when her brother tried to wake her up so she threw a pillow at him.
“Naps are very good for you,” Sophomore Jerratt Bradley says.
Bradley’s naps normally last about an hour to an hour and a half, mostly in the afternoon because “after all activities, you’re pretty tired.” After most naps, Bradley says that he doesn’t feel very refreshed, but instead he feels about the same as he did before he took it. One of his favorite naps he has taken was when he started to take a nap at 4 p.m. and woke up at 6 a.m. the next day.
Caden Willits, Soph., agrees that naps are good for you and says they recharge and fuel you up for the rest of the day.
“They help you mentally clear yourself and calm you down,” Willits said.
According to Willits, anywhere between 1 and 5 p.m. is a good time to nap for him because it’s not too late and it’s not too early. Normally lasting 2 to 3 hours, Willits says his naps make him feel great afterward.
