This November we are starting something new for our newspaper. Why not get some of the best advice from the one and only Josh the Trainer? For each issue, every month, we have decided to do a Q & A with Josh. We’re doing this to not only receive some health tips but to maybe give you a few hints on how to shape up your personal life.

Q: Dear Josh the Trainer,

I was walking on the sidewalk on my way to practice when I saw the love of my life drive by. I decided to chase them. Following their car out, I tripped on the curb and landed on my arm wrong. Not only did I trip in the middle of the parking lot in front of my crush, I also hurt my arm. Should I tell my coach or just act like nothing happened? It’s really embarrassing.

A: Dear Follow Your Heart to Disaster,

First off, you need to tell your coach right away (and your Athletic Trainer)! It is essential that the coach understands your injury so that they can help to facilitate your recovery by modifying practice if necessary. As an Athletic Trainer I must tell you that falling on an outstretched arm (or a FOOSH injury) can be serious. Usually this results in hyper extending your arm and can cause damage to structures in your elbow. This won’t be good when you and your loved one decide to hold hands, as fully extending the elbow can be painful. Not to worry though, over time the swelling should subside and the pain will decrease with the use of ice and also resting the elbow. Lastly, it is important while creeping on your crush to always be aware of your surroundings, especially around moving vehicles. Not only is it embarrassing to fall in front of the love of your life, but it would be a shame to miss out on asking them out because you are in the hospital or worse.
