April Fools!
In 2011, junior Danielle Mitchell’s April Fools’ Day took an unexpected turn. Mitchell had been planning ahead that she wanted to trick somebody for the national prank day. With the help of her mother, Wendy, Danielle had decided that she would take her mother’s fake glasses and convince all of her classmates that she had gone to the eye doctor and received prescription glasses. The day before April Fool’s Day, she had gone to school and explained to all of her class that after school that day she would be off to get her black rimmed glasses.
As planned, Danielle showed up to class that day sporting her mother’s plain lens glasses that did not affect her eyesight. All of her classmates believed her that she had real glasses. However, Mitchell had forgotten that April 1 was also spring picture day.
“When I realized it was picture day, I started to freak out, because I did not want to take my picture with glasses on my face, but I wanted everyone to believe me till the end of the day,” said Mitchell.
Mitchell kept up the act for her spring photo and kept the fake glasses on her face, continuing to fool her classmates. At the end of the day Mitchell announced to the class that they were fake glasses and they were all fooled.
The Mitchell family kept the photo and still enjoy a laugh from the memory.
“I thought it was adorable how she wanted to prank her whole class,” said Wendy Mitchell. “And she was not very happy when we kept the pictures, but it’s a memory.”
