It is hard to keep up with all of the new changes happening at the high school this year. One change that student are familiar with is the Bring Your Own Device initiative. BYOD is a policy allowing students to use technology, such as laptops, tablets, and their phones in the classroom. With the help of Megan Black and other administrators, BYOD was was adopted as an official policy at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.

“Our goal is to create 21st century learners, thinkers, and problem solvers, and in order for students to be college and career ready, knowing how to use technology in an academic setting is very important,” said Mrs. Black.

This was one of the main reasons for the policy changes along with the recent complications that have arisen with the school’s computers. Everyone in the school seems to be willing to embrace this new change, using technology to their advantage in every way possible.

“Our students have taken this responsibility and privilege very well, which I think speaks volumes for our student body,” said Mrs. Black, complementing the responsibility of the students.

The ability to use technology will make schoolwork more streamlined for students.

“I think the BYOD is incredibly beneficial because there is so much information out there on the internet that we need to be able to observe,” said Jr. Melanie Reese.

There are many changes happening this year and BYOD seems to be one that is affecting the whole school.
