Mr. Robinson Nominated as Educator of the Month

By Sydney Shain

Mr. Robinson, the video teacher here at Eudora High, has just recently been named the December nominee for the title Educator of the Year. Each month, a new teacher or educator in the Lawrence area and close by is first recognized by a student or students, then chosen from those nominations as the best choice to win Educator of the Month.

When asked to explain, Robinson replied, “To qualify, I personally didn’t have to do anything. Any teacher in the area can be nominated. Austin and Blake McNorton nominated me and then the selection group picked me to win for this month.”

When representatives from each of the different businesses involved were explaining the award, and talking about each contribution they would provide for the winner, Robinson had no idea that it was going to be him that was nominated.

“Honestly, I had no clue what was going on. I brought my camera to the pep rally to record just what was going on. When I saw a camera crew there, I just assumed they were getting something from the basketball team.”

Being nominated has already won him a pizza party for the class that nominated him, as well as a cash prize, which he already has plans for.

“My first thought was to put it towards a new camera lens for my own camera, or maybe a new pair of hot kicks, or maybe just something nerdy.”

However, he does have the opportunity in a few months to be picked from a drawing to receive a car from Crown Automotive for an entire year.

“They will have a celebration at Crown Automotive, and one out of all the teachers will get randomly picked to win a car. Which would be straight dope if I got that, ‘cause my car sucks,” Robinson explains, while mentioning his reason for wanting the car so badly. Of course, who wouldn’t?

On a serious note, the businesses involved, including Channel 6, Minsky’s Pizza, Meritrust Credit Union, and Crown Automotive use their resources to make teaching and doing it well worthwhile. Each month, they nominate another teacher that works hard to provide the highest level of learning for their students. Mr. Robinson acknowledges this, saying,

“I can’t thank the businesses enough for what they are accomplishing with this award. Being a teacher can be tough, but it’s moments like this that keep you coming back, remind you why you become a teacher, and remind you why you invest so much time in your students. So thank you to those businesses for sacrificing your dollars to make someone else smile.”
