With football season well underway, and Cardinal pride in full swing, students are getting creative with how they represent EHS. Sophomore Katelyn Ormsby takes things to the next level with her crafty approach at school spirit. Ormsby makes scarves, bows, and t-shirt dresses for fans of Eudora sports, and she plans to start making baked goods soon.

Since last fall, Ormsby has been making use of her creative talent and putting it to work for herself, her friends, and her family. If you see girls in the student section cheering with gorgeous hair bows, or in the hallways wearing a dress with the football t-shirt design, you’re most likely looking at some of Ormsby’s work. Anybody can ask her to make them something to wear at the games and show support; however, making these things isn’t just all about the school spirit.

When asked about the reason behind all of it, she responded, “At first it was just for fun, and now I’m raising money to go on the Europe trip.” Ormsby has managed to take enough orders to get a profit started, all from friends and family spreading the word and posting pictures on twitter. Ormsby plans to use the success of her creations to prepare herself for life after high school. She is interested in working in the fashion industry, so any experience helps.

“It also helps me save money,” she added.

To continue adding to her clientele, she posts her most successful projects on Twitter and wears her own work. Ormsby planned to gain more exposure in the community by setting up a booth at Eudorafest this year as well, which was suggested by a customer of hers. This would allow all of Eudora to see her work, pre-made and in full display.

“I was really surprised by how much was sold,” she explained. “I was really happy about money for the trip.”

From what Ormsby says, the booth was a huge success. From seven thirty in the morning until four in the afternoon, she sold all of her usual Cardinal-inspired items along with other local team logos that she had spent so much time preparing in the days leading up to Eudorafest.

“My mom is making a Facebook page for everything I do for adults,” she said when asked about plans for her business venture as serious as a website. As of now, any requests for her unique and personal designs would have to be made through her twitter page, or in person.

If you support the Cardinals and enjoy supporting a fellow high schooler, Katelyn would love to help you look the part!
