Long Time Director Says Goodbye to EHS
If you ever find yourself wandering the halls of EHS and hear loud music coming from a large set of doors, chances are it’s the band room. Nearly 50 students are members of the EHS Band and attend class daily with Mr. Knight. Under his direction, students have competed in various festivals and earned 1 ratings at the state ensemble festival, hosted at EHS annually.
Mr. Knight has worked in the Eudora School District for 9 years alongside his wife who works at EES in the music department. With two young kids, Knight has become a well known community figure. This summer, however, he will be moving to St. John, KS where he will be teach in the St. John-Hudson School District. The St. John-Hudson schools are 2A, much smaller than the 4A school here.
“I have mixed emotions. I am excited for the opportunity and challenge that my new school will have for me. At the same time, it will be very difficult to say goodbye to all of my current students. We have put so much blood, sweat and tears into each performance, it will be hard to start over with a completely new group of students,” Knight admitted about his upcoming move.
Most students have had Mr. Knight as their director since as early as 5th grade. He will be leaving behind a large group of dedicated students who will miss him dearly, but will be accepting with the new director, Mr. Johnson who is moving from Hiawatha.
“Stick with music! Music is an endeavor that can and should last your entire life. Keep practicing, keep improving, keep working. And as always: To be early is to be on time, To be on time is to be late, To be late is to be left behind!”
