Cardinal Baseball Team Wraps Up Busy Week
The Cardinal baseball team hosted Bonner Springs on Monday, April 21. They won the first game 11-2. Seniors JT Howell and Ryan McCabe went 3 for 4 and 2 for 3 respectively.
The winning pitcher on the night was senior Eric Rogers, who struck out six and allowed no earned runs.
The Cardinals came away from the second game with a win as well. They won that game 14-4. Sophomore catcher Jared Fry was 2 for 2, scored two runs, and had two RBI. Junior Laken Straub also had a good night at the plate. He was 3 for 4 and scored two runs.
Sophomore Aaron Foster was the winning pitcher in the nightcap. He threw five innings, gave up no earned runs, and struck out six.
The baseball team travelled to Spring Hill on Tuesday, April 22 and split a doubleheader with the Broncos.
The Cardinals won the first game 8-7. The team had good pitching performances once again. Straub was the starter and only gave up one earned run. Junior Josh White was also effective on the mound. He pitched the 7th inning to earn the save. The Cardinals had a few errors throughout the game that allowed the Broncos to keep it close, but they made some big plays down the stretch to seal the victory. Senior Ryan McCabe came up with a big play in the 7th that possibly saved the game for the Cardinals.
Offensively, Rogers and Howell were very effective. Each went 3 for 4 in the game.
The team lost the second game 11-1. A number of errors and a lack of offense let the game get out of hand.
The team will try to improve on their record of 7-5 when they face Ottawa at home on Tuesday, April 29.
