2021 Hunting Season Starts

Story By: Dakota Copeland

Kansas hunting is in full swing. With quail and pheasant season happening and rifle season for deer is just around the corner. It is time for all EHS hunters to get their licences and begin the hunt!

Pheasant and quail season began November 13 for Kansas and will continue till January 21. Hunting this season should be relatively easy according to the Kansas Upland bird forecast projecting an above average hunt this season. The pheasant population in western Kansas has seen a dramatic increase in birds, Kansas this year ranks among the top states for pheasant population. When it comes to quail this season, Kansas continues to see an above average population. Kansas is again projected to see one of the top hunts in the country when it comes to quail. With over 1.7 million acres for public hunting in Kansas, EHS hunters should have a great season!

Deer season for rifles Is just around the corner. With whitetail looking good in Eastern Kansas and mule deer looking good in the West, Kansas rifle hunters should have a great season. Kansas has an estimated population of 700,000 deer, 620,000 of those are whitetail and over 55,000 of those are mule deer. Kansas hunters should have a great season with a slight increase in population.

WARNING! Kansas hunters are recommended to get all deer harvested in Eastern Kansas tested for CWD. CWD is chronic waste disease, which causes deer to behave erratically and can cause harm to humans if consumed. Be safe and get the big bucks! For quail and pheasant season the bag limit is 4 roosters and 8quail per party member. Good luck EHS hunters and let the hunt begin.
