Story by: Shai Nettles

Eudora High School will be hosting a mock election for our high school students on Tuesday Nov. 3, 2020. Our EHS mock election will be run by Junior Shai Nettles. Nettles is a student in Jason Tharp’s U.S. History honor’s class and is running the mock election for her genius hour project.

The EHS Mock election will take place during Cardinal Time on Tuesday and will be sent out to all graduating classes (2021-2024) via google form. The google form can only be filled out once and the answers are confidential. A reminder that votes do not count toward the actual 2020 election. Nettles is trying to stress the importance of voting. Every vote and ballot counts, voting is a way to voice your own interests, and if you don’t voice your beliefs, who will? There have been multiple elections in the past that have been decided by a singular or handful of votes. Everyone’s vote matters!

After completing the ballot, Cardinal TIme teachers will hand out stickers to students during Cardinal Time. If a student receives a sticker, they can go see U.S. History teacher Jason Tharp and be rewarded with a cookie made by Chef Low. Note: Only students who vote and receive a sticker can receive a cookie.

“I just want to do something great for my peers,” said Nettles. “Voting, that is important and everyone should have the opportunity to voice what they believe in.” Nettles is really excited about how the election will turn out and is anticipating the results.

Results of the Mock Election will be announced Wednesday Nov. 4. You can listen during the EHS announcements second hour or look for an email.

                                                      Don’t forget to vote!
