There are a lot of new teachers this school year, despite COVID-19. One of them is Mrs. Amy Gabriel, teaching Medical Terminology, CPR, First Aid, and Nutrition and Wellness. She is also working on getting her Masters in Clinical and Technical Education, at Pitt State University.

Gabriel is originally from Papillion, a small town in Nebraska, she has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Nebraska Wesleyan College, to then becoming a Nebraska Deputy Sheriff at the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office also in Lincoln, Nebraska, from 1995-2004. She then moved to Arizona to get a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Arizona State University in 2007. Mrs. Gabriel then began working at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and is currently still working as an ER nurse, before deciding to become a teacher.

Gabriel has been in many different types of Nursing.

“I have [also] been an Elementary School Nurse, I have done ICU Nursing, Labor and Delivery, but I really like ER Nursing.” she says.

She now works as a teacher, as well as a nurse, and lives here in Eudora, with three of her kids, and her husband Jim, who is a Kansas farmer. Her kids are Tucker who is 22 and is a senior at Iowa State University and is supposed to graduate in December. Emree is 10 and in fifth grade, Maggie is nine and a fourth grader, and Augie is eight and in second grade, all going to Eudora Elementary School.

Gabriel is nervous about some aspects of teaching here, though.

“I am most nervous about figuring out technology and lesson planning,” Gabriel said, “I’m most excited for the material because I love to talk about healthcare and I’m super excited for [to teach] highschool students.”

Gabriel is excited for the upcoming year, and wants students to know that her door is always open.

“[I’m] pretty open doored, you can ask me about anything and I’ll tell you everything which may be a good thing and may be a bad thing,” she continues, “but I am super excited to be at Eudora High School.”  Gabriel said.
