Many students have their own thing that they always do before every game. From having that huddle talk, to their whole entire day being planned out, EHS is no stranger to game day rituals.
Some students always make sure they prepare the same way for each game, like Lauren Mitchell, Soph., who likes to increase her energy through movement.
“One of the main things I do is plug in my headphones and dance like a complete idiot,” Mitchell explains, “it truly helps me get hyped and in the mood to move and play.”
On the other hand, other people prefer to stay calm. Camdon Willits, Sr., meditates before football games.
“When we have football games I take thirty minutes to myself just to meditate and go through all the plays we have,” Willits said.
Wyatt VanDusen, Sr., spends his whole day wondering how he will approach the game.
“I start off the day thinking about what I am going to do. Am I going to score or am I going to make a play on the ball?” VanDusen explains, “I also thank God for the opportunity to continue playing the sport I love.”
Not all rituals have to do with the pre-game hype, relaxing, or thanking God. Sophomore Cambry Fox, has to do everything exactly right the night before, and the day of a big game.
“I always set my pom-poms by my door the night before game days,” Fox said. “Then, the day of [the game] I have my dad put my bow in.” Fox works hard to make sure she never deviates from her ritual. “When I don’t, gameday just feels weird for me,” Fox said.
No matter what ritual you do before games, everyone has their own individual, unique one.
