The Comeback of Crocs
Story by Fabian Rosales »
Crocs… remember those things? They were the rubber shoes that you wore when you were six-years-old. Well, they’re making a comeback. Recently, it seems like more and more students have been wearing these brightly-colored shoes.
“I have had Crocs for about three weeks,” said Senior Emma Campbell.
Students, however, haven’t been getting Crocs solely because of their style, they get them for their comfort.
“I bought them because they looked comfortable,” said Nicole Tener, Sr., “also, so I can show off my mismatched socks.”
Celeste Etter, Soph., has have been wearing her Crocs around school for over a year now.
“I like them because they’re easy to put on and they’re stylish,” said Etter.
Some students were influenced by others to get a pair.
“I used to work at Schaake’s Pumpkin Patch and the owner of the patch had eight different pairs of Crocs,” said Holland Harvat, Jr. “They looked so comfortable, and they’re so unique, that I couldn’t resist to get some of my own.”
Crocs hit their peak in 2007, selling 75 million pairs since they first appeared on shelves in 2004. According to CNBC, the following year they had a decline in sales because there were too many of the shoes in stores, and people grew tired of them.
At the beginning of summer 2017, Crocs came out with an ad campaign called “Come As You Are.” The campaign had two celebrity endorsements, Drew Barrymore and John Cena. Apparently this worked, and some people started to wear Crocs again. Although, are they really coming back? Many people say they are, but others argue that they are not. Harvat was quick to say that Crocs are not making a comeback.
“No, they aren’t coming back, they never left, and they’re never leaving!”
