New Staff Profile: Mr. Richard Hummel
Story by Neo Galindo ≫
New EHS Head Custodian Richard Hummel was born in November 1953 in Akron, Iowa. He grew up working and doing chores on a farm. Before he took his current job in Eudora, Hummel worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a meat grader. He got his job at the USDA as a direct result of his previous experience in the agriculture industry. Hummel has more than 41 years of experience in industrialized meat production. He has also worked as a guard at a juvenile detention center.
Hummel has lived all over the Midwest, including Dodge City and Chicago (he now resides in Overbrook), but he doesn’t seem to mind the constant change.
“You just have to make whatever you can out of wherever you live,” said Hummel.
Besides keeping busy riding horses on the weekends, there isn’t much else Hummel plans on doing this year. He has stated that this will be his last job before he retires.
