Upcoming winter concert
story by Breyanna Helm
The controversy of religious songs in school concerts is big for many schools in our area. Some, out of fear of violating the separation of church and state and promoting one religion, do nothing about holidays. Other schools, figuring students are all Christian anyway, hold Christmas concerts, set up Christmas trees and put Merry Christmas on marquees — until someone complains. Eudora High School hosts a “Winter Concert,” that has both Christmas and winter songs.
“None of the audiences has ever complained about the Christmas related songs during our winter concert,” said Ashley Ramirez, EHS choir teacher.
So, on Dec. 15 at 7 p.m., choir and band will be performing cheery songs for all to hear in our Performing Arts Center (PAC) for free! Students can’t wait to present songs that will knock your stockings off.
“I like Ding Dong Merrily on High because in the beginning we sound like bells and it’s super cool!” said Rachel Stockton, Sr. Soprano in Cantorei.
