Breakout Lawrence

You have 60 minutes to find all of the clues and escape from a room. Sounds simple enough, right?

“I thought it was going to be super easy,” said Julia Straub, Soph., “I thought an hour was a long time to figure everything out, but the hour goes by really fast.”

Breakout Lawrence is a new entertainment game located on Mass Street in Lawrence. It is owned by Matt Baysinger, Ryan Henrich, and Lucas Thompson, who also own Breakout KC. The escape centers opened within a few months of each other. Each of these locations include four different rooms. The rooms have their own name and level of difficulty. Breakout Lawrence includes The Civil War, Wall Street Stock Exchange, The Rules of Basketball, and Y2K.

“Once we got in the Y2K room, there was a TV that told us the rules and such,” said Alaina Howe, Soph. “They played us a video about how to try and break the code before ‘the world ends.’ It is supposed to take place on New Year’s Eve in 1999. You also get three clues whenever you need them.”

To participate in the escape room, go to the Breakout Lawrence website to sign up for a room, a time, and to pay for your group. The establishment does not accept cash, so make sure when booking to have a credit or debit card on hand. For a group of eight people, the cost is $112. Although the rate of breaking out on time is fairly low, the experience itself is highly recommended.

“I do recommend it to others, but with a larger group so it costs less,” Howe said.

Breakout Lawrence is open Monday through Friday from 6-10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 10:30 PM.
