Sleep-deprived students with the tangy taste of Redbull still fresh on their lips shuffled into the gymnasium of the Eudora Middle School. The gym is filled with brightly colored bouncy houses, the sweet scent of a chocolate fountain and loudly blaring rock music. This is the EHS “Post-Apocalyptic Hollywood”  All Night Prom.

For some first-timers, like junior Maggie Durkin, they were headed into this all-nighter with big expectations and no idea if those expectations would be filled.

“I expected after prom to be a blast because everyone said that after prom was the best part of prom,” said Durkin. “Plus, I really enjoyed prom so I had high expectations.”

But for others, like Junior Kayla Maples, this was nothing new. She had high hopes for the student body all-nighter.

“I heard rumors that it was going to be really cool,” said Maples.

But the night soon took an unexpected turn, when around 4:30 am the students were called to filled the stands. A unknown man took the center floor of the gym and simply introduced himself as a hypnotist. The students were struck with fascination when he described what he would be doing in the next hour.

“I thought it would work, but I was very nervous!” said Maples when her name was drawn to be a subject one of those hypnotized. During the hypnosis, those chosen were put through several activities such as pretending to drive a car, playing in an orchestra and even acting as if they’d lost their belly button.

“I knew what I was doing,” said Maples. “But since I was hypnotized I did it anyways. I believe it works! I felt really relaxed and at ease. It was a really cool experience.”

“The whole night was memorable,” said Durkin.
