A Family Tradition
Many students’ first in-person encounter with their future college includes a tour surrounded by strangers and rushed around the campus. Sadie Pittman’s sister Chloe attended York College during Sadie’s first visit. Imagine for a moment the level of ease at which Sadie Pittman, Sr., experienced while she visited York College while already knowing someone there. Her visit during her freshman year coincided with York’s Song Fest, similar to our Platinum concert. She was able to meet currently attending students, teachers, and coaches, all with the comfort at which anyone would visit their sibling in school.
“The teachers and coaches that I met were very nice and they thought that I was older than I was, and when they realized that I was only a freshman they kept in touch with me the whole time through high school,” said Sadie.
Chloe Pittman, Sadie’s sister, plans to graduate April 30th with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Bible Studies. While she is there studying, however, she enjoys the college’s many devotionals, social club events, and activities. With it’s small size, York offers the comfort of knowing a large portion of the people that attend.
“My favorite part of my college experience is definitely the people I’ve gotten the chance to meet. There are a lot of different kinds of people here but they are all very friendly and willing to talk to anyone which has made my experience so much better,” said Chloe.
Before Chloe, Sadie’s family had been attending York college for two previous generations. Sadie’s grandfather, Charlie Watts, attended from 1963 to 1965. Her mother, Melissa Pittman, graduated in 1987 from York. Both played sports for the school, basketball and volleyball, respectively.
“York is very small, everyone knows everyone and the professors know the students and care about them. I’m excited for Sadie to have this opportunity. I have very fond memories of my years at York College,” said Melissa. “Its pretty exciting that her cousin, George Watts, is also going to be attending York.”
When it comes to how Sadie’s family feels about her decision to attend York, it’s very clear that they’re excited for the experience ahead of her.
When asked about how her family reacted to her decision, Sadie said, “My family would be happy with anything that do. My family is very happy that I am going to York.”
As expected, her family members are more than hopeful about Sadie’s future at their favorite college.
“I am looking forward to seeing her grow and learn, find good relationships, learn more about God and figure out what she wants to be,” said Melissa.
