It’s difficult to avoid choosing sides, especially when comparing area high schools. With ACT scores, graduation rates and the amount of athletic opportunities, however, it is easier to do so without favoring the hometown school.

Last year, Eudora had a very successful year academically. With an average ACT score of 22.3, it trumped that of Baldwin, Wellsville and Tonganoxie, falling short of nearby DeSoto High School, who had an average of 23.6.

“As far as schools our size we match up pretty well athletically, but I feel we don’t have as much opportunity to excel academically. We have a good school for the average student,” said Jasmine Thevarajoo, Jr.

When asked if he could change anything academically about the school, Jack Reynolds, Sr., said, “The ability to not take a full class schedule senior year.”

Perhaps Eudora’s biggest accomplishment from the past year was their graduation rate. At 95.6% it had the second highest rate in the Frontier League and topped both Lawrence High and Free State’s graduation rate.

If there is one clear abnormality concerning Eudora, it is in the low number of sports offered. With 12 sports to participate in, the Cardinals have the least amount compared to all other Frontier League schools. DeSoto has the most at 20.

Overall, there are many things that Eudora strives at, even though the area competition is though.
