Challenging Classes
More than 25% of students face “extreme stress” during the school year, according to a study conducted by Yale University. Once the calendar hits mid-August, students dream of the days without studying, homework and other school-related activities.
For many EHS students, taking challenging classes is one of the less enjoyable aspects of their teenage years. If teens spend their nights doing homework and studying, they’re likely to yearn for a good time. On the other hand, if they spend their nights avoiding homework, they will often regret it the next day.
During high school, it is important to use any abilities in the best possible ways by testing the boundaries. Therefore (here come the tears), high schoolers should take classes that are hard. Although this may seem like a death sentence at the moment, it will pay off in the long run.
One very important tip to survive these courses is to not procrastinate. Yes, this does mean that binge watching of The Office must come to die. Students who don’t do this will likely be stressed. In fact, 37% of polled EHS students say that they are stressed out about schoolwork at least once a day.
Mason Fawcett, Sr., is one student who has taken advantage of the advanced classes at Eudora, despite his busy schedule.
“It’s all about time management,” said Fawcett.
One way that many students approach this issue is by paying attention in class. What good is taking a taxing course if it is unbearable to be there? Having wide open ears and eyes during lessons seems to be an effective way to learn. Students who still don’t understand the concepts, typically ask the teacher for help. They will explain the topics and help break down the information.
“When playing a sport and being involved in school, you have to really use your class time to get assignments done and utilize your time in school as much as you can. You will still have work to do at home most of the time. You just have to buckle down and get it done,” said Fawcett.
Another very important aspect of succeeding in these classes is studying. Studying is the infamous enemy of many people because of its unappealing qualities. These qualities include cumbersome material and lack of motivation. One way to cope with this is to gather a group of friends and study in a place where studying and having a good time are both possible. Coffee shops and libraries are great places for rigorous study sessions.
No matter the time of the year, it is crucial to stay on top of work, study for tests and pay attention to succeed in demanding classes.
