The only treasure these pirates are looking for is the treasure of music. The Cardinal Regiment Marching Band is putting on a “Pirates of the Caribbean”-themed show featuring many of the best works from the famed movies.

The band has been preparing and practicing their marching since the summer. Drum major Olivia Jones, Sr., said they’ve been putting in a lot of work to get ready.

“Band isn’t an activity you can just come to school and do. You have to put effort in outside of school,” Jones said.

The first of months summer were difficult as there were a lot of new members to the band. The band needed to be taught marching drills and formations, which were created by Sr. Mindy McClaskey. Once musicians found their foothold, the show set sail. Lonni Ford, Frosh., really enjoys the power of the music.

“I love the fire and intensity. I get the feeling of being on a boat,” Ford said.

The first music festival the band competed in was on September 24th. The festival was a competition that allowed The Cardinal Regiment Marching Band to perform their show and compete against other schools. Music critics provided feedback on what the band could do better to improve their performance. The received a three for their performance of the show. Performances are graded on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being the best score.

The band then traveled to Baker on September 14th, where they received a two, improving their score from last competition.

The band members aren’t the only ones performing, however. Alongside them are the Cardinal Dance Team dancers. The dance members twist and turn in a battle of pirates as the band plays the songs of the high seas. Dancer Jillian Hopson said, “I like performing with the band. It’s a ton of fun!”

The Cardinal Regiment performed during halftime at five Eudora High School varsity football games.
