Be Here to See It
Story by Sam Campbell
Texting and driving. It’s something we’ve all been tempted to do at one time or another, right? A recent award-winning video created by EHS students emphasizes exactly why you should never text and drive.
The project, created by Siera Hartwell, Sr., Justin Toumberlin, Sr., Nathan Herries, Sr. and Lauren Gabriel, a graduate of EHS, shows what you miss out on if you’re caught in a crash while texting and driving–not being able to graduate, go to college or start a family.
The video, titled “Be Here To See It PSA”, was submitted in two contests.
The first contest was the Olathe Northwest eMagine Competition. The video won the 1st place Pixel award.
“I was jacked,” said video teacher Mr. Robinson. “We took down three first place awards.”
The other competition was the Kansas Turnpike “Put the Brakes on Fatalities” Video Contest. Out of 171 videos submitted, “Be Here To See It PSA” won 1st place. It took home $500 and a new goPro Hero 4 Silver camera for the video program at EHS.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Hartwell. “Knowing you made something actually worth watching that other people see talent in. When we won the Kansas Turnpike contest, Rob called me and I had no words. Two first place finishes are kinda awesome.”
The video can be seen on EHS VideoClub YouTube page, along with many other videos created by the VideoClub.
