The last match
The 2015 Lady Cardinal volleyball team has heart, chemistry, and six seniors who are ready to lead their group to victory, says senior Siera Hartwell. Kristi Daigh, Madison Franklin, Makaila Garcia, Samantha Gulley and Hartwell are returning for their fourth and final year and are fully prepared to make it the best yet. Julia McQueen took last year off but has now returned for her senior season.
“I came back because of my teammates. I really missed my teammates. It’s my last chance, senior year, so I thought why not?” Julia says. “You can’t stay away from the things you love.”
The senior girls have put in work over the summer and are still working on solidifying the team. The girls have done a lot to change the program for the better, and they have come in every season ready to make a difference. Gulley came for weights over the summer, and she only missed one morning.
“I went to summer weights to get swole, that’s my motivation,” Gulley says, when asked about her commitment to getting better.
Daigh wants to leave behind a lighthearted environment for the future players. Franklin has high hopes for the program as well.
“I want to make more girls look forward to volleyball and have fun playing,” says Franklin.
When Garcia is asked how she is going to do things differently in her last year, she says she plans to make sure to have a lot more fun, with the other seniors and the rest of the team.
“Knowing it’s our last chance to play together is my motivation, every point does count this time,” Garcia says.
