The run for state
The season never really stopped for Eudora’s own cross country team. As soon as last year’s cross country season ended, our runners jumped right into winter training, followed by an eventful track season. They then spent all summer bearing the heat together as a team to prepare themselves for the 2015 season.
The goal of this season: state.
Making it to postseason has been in the minds of the team since they last crossed the finish line last fall. Many of them hope to see themselves with a state medal, not only individually but as a team.To get there, the boys and girls of Eudora Cross Country have been training intensively.
Especially during the summer. A lot of the guys and girls were doing two runs a day, running up to 15 miles. Clayton Faircloth, Jr., believes the workouts were remarkably intense. “It’s been a lot of hard work. There were a lot of times I thought I was crazy for doing this, but I know in the long run it’s really going to pay off.”
A lot of the team was probably thinking the same thing, but they’ve already begun to reap the benefits of their hard work. The team had their first meet Thursday, Sept. 4 at Anderson County Golf Course and came to make a statement. The team performed well as a group. With the varsity boys and girls taking second, the JV boys took first and the JV girls taking second.
The team is optimistic when it comes to the state competition. The varsity boys were only 20 points behind Baldwin Varsity Cross Country, who took first in state last year. Both the girls and the boys are very proud of all the effort they’ve put in so far and are really excited with the results..
Cross country coach Gloryanna Boge sums it up by saying, “It’s just change in the state bank.”
