Robotics club sparks students’ imagination

by Corrinne Yoder-Mulkey

Eudora High School’s newest club offers students an exciting new opportunity. Mr. Galemore is sponsoring the Robotics club this year at EHS. Robotics club meets at 6 a.m. every morning in the CAD room located in the Ed-Tec building. Students have the opportunity to design, engineer, and put together robots.

“Robotics by definition is a branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronic engineering and computer science,” said Galemore.

“It deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.”

Basically, robotics is an activity that combines engineering and computers as well as the logistics of robots.

Mr. Galemore believes that time building robots is well-spent. Through the process, students have the opportunity to work with tools and plan their models. Then students begin to make their ideas into physical creations. Students can even use the 3-D printer to watch their projects come to life.

Finally, students use their engineering skills to work out the internal electronics behind the robot and complete their creation.

Harboring a creative atmosphere, Galemore encourages students to give Robotics a shot. “Everyday something new is .earned and discovered. [The students] are only restricted by their own imagination.”
